The
term "handfed bird" refers to a bird that has
been removed from the nesting box, usually at
about 3 weeks old and that is then fed by a
human being until it is weaned. This
process produces a bird that is used to human
beings and enjoys being handled. A bird
can be tame even though it isn't handfed, but
it usually does not enjoy being handled as
much as a handfed bird or in the same way.
Most handfed birds actually enjoy being
cuddled. As a general rule, handfed
birds make excellent pets and are definitely
worth the investment.
