Ball Python Caresheet

Ball Pythons

Scientific Name: Python regius
Distribution: Ghana, Togo
Climate: Savanah grasslands
Size: Adults average 3- 5 feet
Temperment: Usually tame
Hardiness: Hardy if acclimated properly

Special Considerations:
Keep ball pythons at 90 degrees or they will not eat. Feed at night (they are nocturnal). If you turn off their heat at night most will not eat. West Africa in the summer is in the high 90's during the day and in the low 80's at night. Do not hadle regularly until pythons has eaten 2 times. Ball Pythons MUST have a hiding place. Feeding at night a black or brown mouse (dead) in the opening of their cave can produce good results. Keeping Ball Pythons in groups will reduce the chances of them eating. Worm pythons with panacur or Safe Guard paste to rid internal parasites. Remove any ticks with tweezers.

TICKS:
We remove all visible ticks. There will be some small ticks under the snakes scales that we can not see. After the tick fills up with blood it will swell several times its size and then become visible. Check for ticks every few days. All Ball Pythons, except for babies, can have ticks. They do not multiply like mites and can easily be removed.
